What Are Aufwuchs Grazers?

Aufwuchs (German for “surface growth”) refers to the natural collection of algae, microbes, detritus, and tiny critters that form on rocks, driftwood, and plants in rivers and streams. Species like hillstream loaches, otocinclus, plecos, and nerite snails have evolved to graze continuously on this film-like layer. Feeding them a diet that replicates this behavior is key to keeping them healthy—and that’s exactly what Soilent Green does.

How to Use:

1. Mix 1 part powder with 3 parts water and stir until smooth.

2. Heat the mixture (microwave or stovetop) until it begins to boil.

3. Stir again, then pour into a container or mold.

4. Let it cool and set at room temperature.

5. Cut, cube, or shred into portions.

Storage Tip: Keep unused gel in the fridge (up to 2 weeks) or freezer (up to 6 months). Adjust water ratio for a firmer or softer consistency.
